Focus: Building foundational understanding of the executive search process so candidates can navigate it with confidence.
 
Objectives:

  • Learn the stages of a search — from presentation of materials to final interviews.
  • Understand how search firms and institutions identify, evaluate, and recruit candidates.
  • Recognize how community and civic engagement leadership experience is perceived in senior searches.

Key Topics:

  • Anatomy of a search and key stakeholders (firms, committees, boards).
  • National trends in leadership hiring and the emerging civic mission narrative.
  • Candidate sourcing: how names surface, what materials matter, and how readiness is assessed.
  • Strategic use of professional networks (including Campus Compact) for visibility and nominations.
