This symposium reframes that pressure as an opportunity for systemic and transformational change. Join Campus Compact and LEAD California for this in-person symposium to get started with Campus Compact’s Campus Action Planning (CAP) framework and begin to develop an actionable plan for advancing civic and community engagement as an institutional priority—laying the groundwork to build durable public trust and amplify community impact.

Grounded in CAP’s guiding principles—institutional values and context, collective flourishing, and adaptive planning —participants will: 

• Take stock of where their campus stands today to surface existing strengths, gaps, and untapped points of alignment 
• Develop a preliminary analysis of opportunities for systemic change focused on shared institutional and community priorities
• Explore strategies for fostering buy-in from key contributors, including administrators, trustees, faculty, and community partners, with language that resonates with their distinct priorities 

Higher education’s public purpose is realized when institutional power is leveraged to promote social impact, community flourishing, and a thriving democracy. The event is designed to move beyond abstract commitments, setting engagement administrators and campus leaders on a practical path for integrating civic and community engagement across all institutional functions—from research and teaching to operations and economic influence.
