Description
This panel contributes to the longstanding conversation about limitations of service-learning through a critical examination of the history of service-learning, problematizing the use of service-learning as a term, and proposing a new and innovative framework - critically-engaged civic learning. A new and innovative equity-based framework is presented critically-engaged civic learning (CECL). In this model, framers argue for decentering students and breaking down power dynamics among stakeholders involved in community-engaged work with a focus on equitable and ethical engagement with communities.
