About the Showcase:
During this TRUCEN Showcase, participants will experience a case study that dives deep into how universities can react and respond to moments of crisis by engaging with their local communities. The Tulane University Center for Public Service (CPS) emerged after the Katrina Hurricane almost twenty years ago. Today, CPS is Tulane’s comprehensive community engagement center, supporting curricular and co-curricular learning, advancing community engaged research with faculty, and facilitating partnerships between Tulane’s students, faculty, and staff and community partners to positively impact New Orleans and transform civic life. Over the course of two days, participants will be in community with CPS staff and partners to unpack what they’ve learned over the past two decades, how they’ve shaped and reshaped their work, and what the future holds.
Participants will meet and engage directly with key community partners, including CPS’ Partner in Residence Ms. Carol Bebelle. The group will also visit several community sites including Ashé Cultural Arts Center and Central City. Participants will have an opportunity to attend the Center for Public Service’s partnership reception which is occurring during the visit.
During this Showcase visit, participants (which are encouraged to come in teams of two) will have dedicated time for response, reflection, and planning for how their own campus’ community and civic engagement infrastructure can be positioned for responsiveness in the face of crisis.
We encourage folks to register immediately as this event is limited to 16 participants
Who should attend?

Agenda Highlight: Ashé Cultural Arts Center
Ashé Cultural Art Center’s innovative programming is designed to utilize culture in fostering human development and civic engagement. We maintain 10,000 square feet of gallery space and 20,000 square feet of performance space to create and preserve opportunities for the curation, exhibition, and commission of fine, folk, and fine-folk art. Producing over 350 music, theater, dance, spoken word, drum circles, and multi-disciplinary events a year, Ashé believes in art as a paradigm-shifting call to action. As ecosystem builders, we deliver programming and direct services that support, leverage, and celebrate the people, places, and philosophies of the African Diaspora.
