Meet The Speakers:
Braelei Hardt
Braelei Hardt is a freelance wildlife biologist, conservationist, photographer, and naturalist tour guide located in Denver, Colorado. Hardt’s interest in the natural world began at a young age, blossoming into a passion for predatory raptors that resulted in an intensive volunteer commitment to the Cascades Raptor Center education and rehabilitation facility in Eugene, Oregon. Hardt received an Honors B.S. in Wildlife Science and Statistics from Oregon State University. Later, they achieved an M.S. in Biology from the University of Colorado, where they focused on evolutionary ecology and bioacoustic physics. Currently, Hardt focuses on providing scientifically and culturally accurate information on the beautiful landscapes of the world in hopes of inspiring passion for the protection of our fragile ecosystems.
Jane Gilbert
Jane Gilbert is the world’s first Chief Heat Officer in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Gilbert works across departments and partners to address the increasing risks to human health, lives, and livelihoods associated with extreme heat. She has over 30 years of experience in areas such as public-private partnerships and urban resilience. Before joining the County, she served as the City of Miami’s first Chief Resilience Officer (CRO) for four years. In this role, Gilbert led the urban resilience strategy development and implementation for the City of Miami. She developed and implemented a city-level response to the impacts of sea level rise and increased flood risk. Prior to public service, Gilbert led three nonprofits and managed Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) work for large corporations. She holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science from Barnard College and a Master’s from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Jessica Ullyott
Jessica Ullyott is the founder of Nature Needs SD, which aims to inform people about local nature spaces and volunteer opportunities to promote the health of individuals, the community, and the environment in San Diego. Ullyott has also written a book titled Intentional - A Holistic Approach to Building and Maintaining a Sustainable Lifestyle. This workbook provides practical exercises, tools and strategies to live more sustainably, reduce waste and develop meaningful connections to nature. Ullyott received their Masters in Teaching Biology from Miami University and has 15 years of teaching experience.
