As the inaugural director of the Parrhesia Program for Public Discourse at the University of Chicago, Leila is building curricula to foster robust, inclusive, and productive public discourse, dialogue, and deliberation. Previously, Leila led the development of nationally-recognized civic learning curriculum that was recognized by the American Association of Colleges and Universities Civic Learning in the Major by Design and the Program of Distinction and the Rex Mix Department of Distinction Award from the National Communication Association. Leila served on the team that developed the AAC&U civic engagement VALUE Rubric. Leila has been recognized with a number of institutional, regional, and national teaching awards, including the 2018 Minnesota Campus Compact President’s Civic Engagement Steward Award.
