Description
Civic inquiry, a process of seeking, valuing, and elevating multiple voices through inclusive discourse, deliberative practices, and collaborative action, immerses students in their communities and develops their civic responsibility, voice, and leadership. Grounded in theory, refined by nationally-recognized practice, and reflecting AAC&U’s Civic Engagement VALUE Rubric, the process of civic inquiry is readily adapted and used in civic engagement courses in any discipline. Participants in the session will actively engage the process of civic inquiry, identify it in their own courses and programs using guided exercises and the AACU Civic Engagement VALUE rubric, and discuss how to more intentionally integrate and reflect upon these elements in future courses.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand and recognize the process of civic inquiry
- Identify elements of civic inquiry to integrate into civic engagement courses and programs
- Develop plans for infusing civic inquiry in existing and new civic engagement courses and programs
- Develop new courses to inclusively engage students with their communities.
