Description
This session features a preliminary overview of how Gateway Technical College has partnered with the Zeidler Center for Public Discussion on creating a curriculum to develop the skills needed for civil dialogue. What civil dialogue does is, through storytelling, boils down thoughts and opinions about sensitive topics to their core values and allows for people of opposing views to see each other for their humanity and shared values. Key Takeaways: 1) Participants will participate in a role-play scenario using the open-ended question format used on campus; 2) Participants will receive lessons learned from the pilot program training staff and faculty, as well as from hosting round-table discussions on sensitive topics like immigration
Learning outcomes:
- Attendees will learn how to frame questions from a place of curiosity
- Attendees will learn from challenges and pitfalls experienced while hosting workshops and round-table discussions on sensitive topics
- Attendees will be able to share their own experiences to add to group learning
