Community engagement activities require authentic, reciprocal partnerships. Microaggressions can occur between students, faculty, staff and community partners in community engagement spaces. This interactive workshop will explore what implicit bias and microaggressions are, how to employ microresistence strategies, and explore how campuses can begin to address these issues on their campus.
Learning outcomes:
- Explore how implicit bias affects your thoughts and behavior and what microaggressions are
- Understand microaffirmations and how stakeholders can work together to create positive learning spaces
- Develop strategies to address microaggressions on their campuses and in their home communities
- Connect to resources available to further explore microaggressions in community engagement
