The Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement, or “Carnegie process,” is a major potential lever for positive change, requiring “the investment of substantial effort by participating institutions to provide evidence of the commitment to a special purpose, demonstrated with precision across the breadth of the institution” (https://carnegieclassifications.acenet.edu/about/). This session examines how universities can maximize the potential of the Carnegie process to not only spark but sustain institutional change. Specifically, this knowledge-to-action workshop explores scenarios in several institutions across the country and provides activities to highlight how to build sustainable institutional change into the Carnegie process.
