Description

How does a Classics department—encompassing the languages, histories, culture, and material of the ancient Mediterranean and Near East—align its curriculum with Service-Learning and Community Engagement (SLCE) goals? While Classics can enrich student perspectives by introducing them to diverse worldviews and inspiring their curiosity, we must address how Classics emerges from and reproduces systemic racism. How can we reckon with disciplinary privilege, address historical injustices, and foster equitable partnerships with communities as we restructure our program around SLCE? This discussion invites participants to explore these challenges, share best practices, and brainstorm future directions in an interactive forum.
