Brenda Aguirre-Ortega is a STEM Education PhD student born and raised in Ecuador. She has a BA in chemical engineering, and has worked as an engineer, translator, and math teacher, and is a singer songwriter. Aguirre-Ortega challenges power structures in math classrooms, through humanizing and socially relevant approaches, including combining music and math teaching in elementary-school grades.
