Description

In this session, facilitators will highlight the new book, "Anti-Racist Community Engagement: Principles and Practices." An editor will review its structure and purpose before introducing two authors whose collaboratively written chapters are featured in section/principle 2 (Critical Reflection on Individual and Systemic/Structural Racism) and section/principle 4 (Compassionate/Reflective Classroom). The first author, Sinda Nichols, will delve into Chapter 7, which explores campus/community partnerships that emphasize Indigenous ways of knowing and amplify student voices. The second author, Carmine Perrotti, will discuss Chapter 17, focused on ungrading and collaborative course design that prepares students for anti-racist community engagement. A final Q&A/discussion invites attendees to imagine ways to practice anti-racist principles in their own professional collaborations with others who share a commitment to advancing anti-racist values.
