Description

This presentation discusses how a community-engaged course influenced and increased undergraduate students’ awareness of wellbeing, creative skills, and career interest in the field of mental health. This topic will be illustrated through the course, The Contemplation of Resilience, Wellbeing and Mental Health through Creativity and Qualitative Analysis, offered at a small Midwestern university. As a part of this course, the students participated in creativity-based programs along with adolescents with mental health challenges. The qualitative data from students’ pre and post-surveys indicates that the community-engaged component of this course is a key ingredient for students’ learning outcomes. The data is analyzed through the lens of the INNATE framework and the Habits of Studio Mind theory.
