As the community engagement field continues to shift away from the service-learning charity/white saviorism paradigm, practitioners must consider deepening and expanding their understanding of community engagement. In this session, the Community-Based Learning Program from Portland Community College will share their Professional Learning Community model and the mutual aid module that has reshaped how they define community engagement. Participants will learn the basic principles of mutual aid; reflect on the ways mutual aid and its principles can be integrated into community-based learning pedagogy; and gain resources to develop and continue this discussion with their own community of practice.
