About this event

Colleges and universities play a critical role in expanding access to higher education—but that work increasingly begins well before students arrive on campus. As K–12 partners navigate shifting policy landscapes and growing student needs, there is a clear opportunity for civic and community engagement leaders to deepen alignment with college access efforts and strengthen pathways to postsecondary success.

At this intersection, community-engaged institutions can serve as key connectors—supporting the practitioners, programs, and partnerships that help more students navigate the transition from high school to higher education. This includes ensuring that those working closest to students have access to timely information, practical tools, and a strong professional network, particularly when supporting immigrant, undocumented, and students and families navigating complex systems and policies.

This webinar highlights one national effort designed to do just that. In partnership with the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, we will explore College Corner—an initiative that equips K–12 college counselors and access professionals with resources, training, and peer support to better guide students through the college-going process. Designed to strengthen practitioner capacity and expand educational opportunity, College Corner provides support on issues ranging from financial aid and college advising to navigating evolving immigration and state policy contexts. Since launching in 2025, the initiative has reached more than 450 practitioners nationwide.

Featuring Felecia Russell, Vice President for Campus Programs and Portal Initiatives, this session will provide insight into how institutions can connect their civic and community engagement work with college access ecosystems in meaningful and actionable ways.

What participants can expect:

  • A deeper understanding of how K–12 college access professionals are navigating evolving student needs and policy contexts
  • Strategies for strengthening partnerships between higher education institutions and K–12/community-based college access programs
  • An overview of the College Corner model, including its national learning sessions, resource hub, and peer network designed to support practitioners serving immigrant, undocumented, and mixed-status students
  • Practical tools and approaches that can be adapted to support students on the path to postsecondary opportunity

This session is part of Campus Compact's Resource Spotlight Series—a member-only offering that connects participants with field leaders sharing practical tools, tested models, and actionable opportunities to advance civic and community engagement. Designed with a focus on substance over promotion, these Spotlights highlight approaches that can be directly applied, adapted, or scaled within institutional contexts.
