Perhaps more than ever universities and communities need each other to address the challenges we face. Unfortunately, many of higher education’s traditional approaches to community engagement, while having strong merits, are not fully capable of responding to the enormity of the challenges we face. The emerging model of place-based community engagement offers universities a new strategy to attain greater impact in their local communities and also on their campuses.

 

This pre-conference session and embedded institute will focus on place-based community engagement. It will include a pre-conference session from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 29, a community tour on Monday, March 30, and several recommended conference sessions and opportunities for reflection throughout the conference.
