Name
Using Dialogue as a Participatory Evaluation Tool to Promote Cultures of Inclusion and Equity
Date & Time
Wednesday, March 30, 2022, 4:00 PM - 4:50 PM
Description

Student activism prompted wide-spread planning for institutional reform vis a vis equity and inclusion goals on the Oklahoma State University campus. The Center for Public Life offered co-facilitated dialogue circles as a participatory evaluation tool -- which hold promise for implementation in other institutional settings where organization/institutional leaders seek input from those experiencing toxic culture and also aim to foster inclusion through all aspects of the change process. Drawing on a dialogue initiative/participatory evaluation with 800 participants, the proposed session invites participants to experience an excerpt of the dialogue guide/data collection instrument through a 30 minute dialogue, debrief the dialogue experience, and consider the barriers and supports for this type of work in their own campus environment.

|Learning outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  • understand participatory evaluation as a tool to strengthen inclusion and equity;
  • choose co-facilitated dialogue circles as an option for participatory evaluation; and
  • categorize supports and barriers for implementing this approach in their campus environment.
