Join U-M’s Ginsberg Center America Reads Program to learn about ways to infuse equity-based literacy practices in your community-based tutoring programs. Tutoring from a critical lens requires deep reflection of personal and social identities, it also requires tutors to reflect on systemic issues that are impacting the education system, and communities at large. The elements of an effective university tutor require intentional training, ongoing support, resources, and reflection. Intentionally connecting these elements helps students become more competent, confident, and equity-driven tutors. During this session, attendees will leave with key takeaways such as strategies to develop culturally responsive tutors through intentional journal reflection prompts and circles.
