Dr. Svetlana V. Tyutina is an Assistant Professor of Spanish and the Director of Student Service Learning at the Office of Community Engagement at California State University, Northridge. She holds a doctoral degree in Romance linguistics from Herzen State University of Russia (Saint Petersburg) and in Latin American literature from Florida International University (Miami/FL). Her research interests include LSP (languages for specific purposes), HIPs (high impact practices), PBL (project-based learning), and SL/CE (service-learning and community engagement) in the field of foreign languages and literatures, as well as Hispanic Orientalism. She is an author of numerous articles and presentations on these topics. Her service-learning projects in the field of Romance linguistics, translation, and literatures include an award-winning project with Los Angeles Superior Court, IRS-supported VITA Clinic, and collaborative projects with LA community colleges aimed at preparing future faculty and implementing service learning in their pedagogical practices.
