Description
Higher ed community engagement work in metropolitan areas is both rewarding and challenging. In this session, participants are called to explore the civic practices circulating “in the city” and the ways these practices produce inequities that are often overlooked in community engagement work. Facilitators offer a community organizing model as a framework for effective community engagement practice in large, urban, cities. Participants are invited to join in brainstorming and designing a model cityscape that would inspire full participation for its peoples. This session is well suited for higher ed faculty and community engagement professionals from any college or university, as well as community partners/service providers working in major metropolitan areas.

  • Consider public actions that address teaching, learning and activism in the city
  • Facilitate inclusive dialogue around the equity of public participation in the city
