Date & Time
Wednesday, April 1, 2020, 9:45 AM - 10:45 AM
Description
This session will highlight the impact of cultural relevance (and not considering cultural relevance) on all aspects of a department including decision-making, coursework, assessment, and daily interactions with all stakeholders. The presenter, a relatively new department chair, will share her experiences within her department and open a discussion about how best to encourage faculty consideration of the impact of culture on their roles and responsibilities. Participants will be able to acknowledge how their own culture and experiences have impacted them as educators and discuss the role, definition, and impact of "cultural relevance" in higher education.

    • how to navigate challenging conversations with faculty and students related to culture
    • how to work toward productive, meaningful outcomes when considering cultural relevance while making decisions
