From the Ferguson Uprising to Aspired Democracy: What Did We Learn About Fulfilling the Promise?

In 2014 the uprisings in Ferguson, MO challenged and uncovered the racism, classism, and inequitable social policies that have long plagued the St. Louis region. During this session, panelists will discuss how, five years on, the uprisings that took place a mere 20 minutes from the Washington University in St. Louis campus have influenced our work in civic and community engagement (15 Minutes). Using the World Café Method, we will engage participants in two rounds of questions for discussion (35 Minutes) about [add something here]. We will close with implications for future practice (10 Minutes).
 
Learning outcomes:
  • Gain new skills to discuss the value of entering communities with an equity lens Identify three concrete strategies for integrating equity and civic engagement that they can take and apply to their own college or university.
