Name
Community Learning Exchanges: Making Spaces to Unite the Power of Place and Wisdom of People
Date & Time
Tuesday, March 31, 2020, 9:45 AM - 10:45 AM
Description
This interactive session explores how faculty within the Center for Urban Education and Policy at the University of North Florida and community partners at both Grove Park Elementary in Orange Park, FL and The Eastside Brotherhood in Jacksonville, FL use Community Learning Exchanges (CLEs) as a process for re-imagining deep learning for students, faculty, and community members. This session will describe how our university-community partnerships unite the power and wisdom in two of NE Florida’s strongest historically African American neighborhoods, Grove Park and "Out East", in order to deepen collective cultural knowledge and competence, better understand the assets of neighborhoods and people in them, and enhance relationships. These CLEs are organized around innovative and highly participatory pedagogies, some of which will be used during the session.
