Recently an insurance administrator innocently asked my spouse how long I have been an educator. “Um. I think… forever?” he answered. Not amused, she followed up by asking how long has she been a student. “Also, I’m pretty sure, forever,” was his reply. Not helpful, but honest responses. It is legitimately hard to keep track. For my whole adult life I have been working to make school life and school systems better for kids and for teachers – whether I was working within school buildings, in the streets, in the policy realm, or in politics. In 2015 I got involved in “The Academy” and expect to finish my PhD, with a dissertation project focused on teacher activism, in June 2020.
