Drawing on pedagogies that challenge traditional models of higher education classrooms, this presentation will describe the process of developing a course to be co-taught by a community organizer and a faculty member. The course design was informed and adapted from The Inside-Out: Prison Exchange Program and the Side-by-Side Community-based Learning format. In this session, participants will learn about the process of co-developing a course, the challenges presented by higher education institutions, and lessons learned from the design process, including how to frame the idea to stakeholders.Participants will have time to reflect on their own ideas for co-creating and co-teaching a course in their unique environments and will be provided with time for interaction and sharing. | Learning outcomes: - Articulate the benefits of community-faculty collaborations to university students; - Develop strategies to frame community-university collaborations to higher education administrators to maximize support for these types of courses; - Understand the connection between justice and community collaborations;"
