Description
The University of Chicago Institute of Politics (IOP) is asking: How can we equip our students to gain a better understanding of urban/rural divides, have productive conversations across difference, and find shared solutions to the challenges that our communities are facing? Bridging the Divide is a multi-institutional partnership between the UChicago IOP, Eureka College, Arrupe College. The program assembles a cohort to address urban and rural divisions around three policy topics. Through dialogue, immersions, and educational programming students advance their awareness & knowledge about urban/rural issues and build skills to dialogue across difference. In this session, participants will learn about the Bridging the Divide model and identify strategies to implement multi-institutional partnerships to advance student learning regarding urban/rural divides.

Learning outcomes:
  • Identify programming models to advance student learning around urban/rural divides
  • Develop a plan to create a multi-institutional public service program
  • Brainstorm solutions to challenges/obstacles for program implementation
