This interactive discussion focuses on the Center for Civic Engagement’s experience leading a ‘Cougs Vote’ coalition of students, staff, faculty and community members. Panelists will recount their experiences in forming a coalition across six campuses dedicated to executing a student-driven democratic engagement campaign. Discussion will include: - Including and engaging underrepresented populations - Raising awareness of the importance of elections - Increasing student voter registration and voting rates, with an emphasis on underrepresented populations - Maintaining enthusiasm and continuing efforts even in off-year and mid-term election cycles - Obstacles and unexpected challenges - Avoiding perceptions of bias and political favoritism

- Identify components of a successful democratic engagement campaign across multiple campuses
- Discuss best practices on engaging campus and community partners—focusing on underrepresented populations and students of color
- Consider strategies for voting and democratic engagement campaigns during Presidential election cycles, mid-term campaigns, and in off-cycle years
