Description
A district-university partnership paved the way to an innovative plan to merge a low performing school on the border slated to be closed, with a top forming school less than two miles away. Two communities with differing ideologies in the education of their students and communities merged.
 
Purpose: Participants will understand how to approach and engage organizations in ways that benefit those who need it the most – children and communities.
 
Objectives: 1) Demonstrate the importance of equity and inclusion in community and partnership work, including challenges inherent in the process and across the diversity between both communities; 2) Communicate how effective community/district/university partnerships are related to our work at the university
 
Learning outcomes:
  • The importance of equity and inclusion in community-engaged work
  • The understanding that challenges inherent in these cases are to be expected and the importance of including all voices, perspectives
  • The importance for university faculty to engage in this work and ground courses in this type of work.
