Description
This workshop will introduce the National Issues Forum deliberative dialogue method of convening people to discuss challenging issues. Our objectives are: 1) To provide an overview of the model and allow participants to engage in a brief practice forum; 2) To provide examples of how institutions of higher education are using the model; 3) To give three examples where institutions and organizations have created their own issue guide to convene people on a relevant topic; and 4) To help participants identify ways they can implement the model and process locally. Participants will leave with a packet of materials to assist them in moderating a Forum and/or creating their own issue guide.

Learning outcomes:
  • Participants will gain an understanding of and experience the National Issues Forum deliberative dialogue model
  • Participants will gain ideas for utilization of the NIFI model in their own institutional and community setting
  • Participants will explore the process for creating and designing their own Issue Guide on a relevant issue
