Description
This session will discuss promising practices for implementing an online or in-person Community of Practice (COP) on Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR). This will be useful for those looking to learn more about the COP framework or for individuals currently working on a CBPR project. Session leaders, along with COP participants, will engage the audience in a dialogue about how to build communities of practice on their campuses with various constituents, especially around topics that go against the grain of the institutional culture at many colleges and universities. Participants will walk away with resources to design their own COP, will share advice and ideas, and be sustained by the insights of others.
Learning outcomes:
- Benefit from reflections on 2018-2020 COPs on CBPR
- Gain tools to develop COPs to sustain reciprocal/transformative community-based projects
- Understand common CBPR issues and how to address them through COP format
- Meet colleagues looking to address issues of similar concern and become collaborators
- Begin thinking about changes to institutional structures
