Democratic Deliberation in Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement

Description
Building on “Constitution Day of Deliberation” piloted in Minnesota in 2018, this session expands the practice of democratic dialogue and deliberation. In deliberating using the NIFI issue guide on political polarization or criminal justice reform, session attendees have the opportunity to experience online and in-person moderated democratic deliberation, and to explore in and out of classroom best practices and experiences with seasoned forum conveners. Presenters represent the diversity of civic engagement in democratic practice at colleges and universities (2-year; 4-year), the Kettering Foundation and the National Issues Forum Institute. These experiences and resources are shared with engaged participation encouraged of all session attendees.
