Byron P. White, EdD, has spent his career as a journalist and administrator in academic, corporate, non-profit and public sectors facilitating mutually beneficial engagement between institutions and urban communities. He currently is Vice President for Partnerships and Enrollment at College Unbound, having spent more than two decades as a higher education executive, including as Associate Provost for Urban Research and Community Engagement at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Vice President for University Engagement and Chief Diversity Officer at Cleveland State University, and Vice Chancellor for Economic Development for the University System of Ohio. As a community development professional, he was Executive Director of StrivePartnership, a Cincinnati-based collective impact organization, after having worked previously for community-based organizations in Cincinnati and on Chicago’s Westside. He began his career as a newspaper journalist, including serving as Urban Affairs Team Editor and Editorial Writer for the Chicago Tribune. Dr. White is a Senior Fellow for Campus Compact and sits on the national board of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute and on the Advisory Board of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. He has a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in social science from the University of Chicago.
