Speaker Bio
Soniy serves as the Up to Us Leadership Network civic leaders cohort Program Coordinator. Before this role, she was one of eight Campus Compact Student Design Fellows, during which the idea of the SLA Program was born. She spent extensive time during her undergraduate years at the University of Florida working with nonprofits on capacity building. She also served as the student director of a social change fellowship on campus, where she mentored a cohort of students to partner with grassroots organizations in the Gainesville community.
Soniy brought her community organizing skills to George Washington University’s Civic Changemakers AmeriCorps VISTA program and later interned abroad in Prague, Czechia, with a youth leadership non-profit called Moonshot Platform. Her diverse experiences have shaped a deep commitment to equity, civic engagement, and the power of student leadership, and she is intentional about embedding these values into her work every day.
As a first-generation college student to Iranian immigrant parents, she is especially passionate about creating inclusive spaces where all students can lead, thrive, and drive meaningful change. She is a May 2025 graduate from the University of Florida and has recently relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with her partner Cameron and her two cats, Oyster and Neptune.
