Students begin college full of hopes, dreams, and expectations, and yet the transition from high school to college is often precarious. In our increasingly fractured world and partisan climate, students experience high rates of isolation, loneliness, and mental stress. This workshop will explore the values and strategies the Michigan Community Scholars Program utilizes with diverse populations to help first-year students navigate the transition to college, promote their well-being and success, and prepare them for community engagement. Emphasis will be placed on student leaders as catalysts and drivers of a culture of inclusion and compassion. In this interactive workshop, participants will gain new insights into student leader development and inspiration for their community engagement practice.
