Description

Wake Forest University's Office of Civic & Community Engagement partnered with The Forest residential experience to create a civic engagement-focused living-learning community in Hopkins Hall. Honoring the hall's public health legacy through programming addressing Winston-Salem's social determinants of health, including narrative medicine, dialogue, and packing events tackling healthcare equity and strategic alignment with The Forest's foundational values, residents engaged in service, facilitated dialogues, and advocacy while building four-year commitments to community investment. The Hopkins Civic Challenge tracks participation via GivePulse, measuring long-term community impact including fundraising and sustained service at community partners. This scalable model, piloted through partnerships across multiple programs and offices, demonstrates how residential programming can cultivate civic-minded graduates who transform local communities throughout their university experience.
