Description

Rural youth face distinct barriers to civic engagement and community participation, yet their voices are often absent from conversations about youth leadership and rural development. The Rural Youth Voices Initiative, led by Campus Compact in partnership with national youth leader Hannah Botts, seeks to change that. Through this inaugural student-run fellowship, twelve rural youth leaders (ages 18–24) from across twelve states are designing and implementing projects that reflect their communities’ needs, values, and aspirations, from intergenerational storytelling to youth-led park revitalization and career access programs. This session will highlight Rural Youth Fellow’s innovative projects, discuss key learnings from youth co-design and narrative change, and share insights from an upcoming report on the state of rural youth engagement. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for centering youth leadership in rural service, education, and community programs.
