Description

In Oklahoma, all college graduates are required to take an American Federal Government course. Rose State College (RSC), a two-year public community college outside Oklahoma City, views this mandate not simply as a requirement, but as an invitation to engage students in the principles of democracy and civil society. This session will show how RSC leverages two national organizations—Unify America and Project Pericles—to deepen civic learning. Dr. Emily Stacey, a Political Science professor and Periclean Civic Engagement Fellow, integrates Unify America's virtual peer-to-peer dialogue programming with Project Pericles' deliberative dialogue modules in her courses. Participants will engage in an exercise combining both frameworks and models, and explore how low-stakes, face-to-face dialogue is effective, impactful, and adaptive across disciplines.
