Grounded in the liberatory traditions of Paulo Freire, bell hooks, Peter Block, Rev. Sam Wells, and Valarie Kaur, this session explores how higher education can cultivate hope and civic imagination in times of societal unraveling. We will share methodologies from Duke University's Service Opportunities in Leadership (SOL) Fellowship Program, which engages students' urgent and complex questions as entry points for transformation. Facilitated by Professor Alexandra Zagbayou with SOL Alumni Fellows Mike Ramos and Annabel Tang, this interactive session will present our model while also embodying its practices. Participants will engage in reflection and dialogue with one another and the facilitators, leaving with concrete strategies to center community, dialogue, and transformation in their own teaching and engagement efforts.
