Description

At Compact25, Providence College's Neighborly Engagement Research Lab (NERLab)—an undergraduate, community-engaged research collaborative—presented community-defined principles and practices of "neighborliness" to support equitable community-campus relationships. This follow-up session introduces NERLab as a "promising practice" for community-engaged scholarship. Participants will learn about the lab's founding, structure, funding, student leadership, and accountability mechanisms. The session will explore how NERLab addresses the persistent "problem of time" in community engagement by fostering sustained, meaningful engagement beyond short-term projects. Through storytelling, dialogue, and Q&A, student leaders and faculty will share insights into centering community knowledge and expertise within community-campus relationships. Participants will be invited to reflect on their institutional contexts and consider how NERLab's values can inspire more equitable collaborations.
