Colleges and universities across the country instituted new rules in 2024 limiting how public campus spaces can be used. PEN America cautioned that such policies could curtail free expression, and the AAUP argued that they "impose severe limits on speech and assembly that discourage or shut down freedom of expression." Concerned that voter education and engagement efforts were at risk before the Presidential election, this session's presenters launched a project inviting students to discuss voting and public issues on their campus Quad. Although police were called to investigate, the project was found to be in compliance with campus policies. Presenters will share their work and lead a strategy session on navigating speech policies to promote nonpartisan voter education and engagement.
