In an era of increasing polarization, civil discourse has become fundamental to advancing wellbeing and belonging goals within higher education, allowing students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences to engage in meaningful dialogue around complex global and local issues - within and outside the classroom. Launched in fall 2024 as a collaborative effort between the University of Pittsburgh's School for Public and International Affairs and Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, the four-part Discourse and Dialogue Speaker Series built capacity across both schools and campuses around thoughtful dialogue. In its current form, the collaboration continues to empower community members to engage in meaningful dialogue about interdisciplinary policy issues relevant to current events.
