This session highlights a promising practice from Michigan State University's Community Engagement Scholars Program (CESP), a cohort-based initiative of the Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL). CESP connects students with community partners to co-create solutions in areas such as housing, neighborhood development, and civic participation. Recently, mindfulness practices—including journaling, meditation, listening, and movement—have been integrated into the program to deepen reflection and foster presence, compassion, and mutual care. These practices strengthen student learning and support more ethical, sustainable partnerships. The session will introduce CCEL and CESP, share examples of mindfulness integration and its impacts, and guide participants through a short mindfulness activity and discussion to explore applications for cultivating student success and just, compassionate community engagement.
