Description

Since 2017, two Minnesota universities have been partnering to mobilize community members to identify and map racial covenants, clauses inserted in property records that barred people who were not White from buying or occupying property. Leaders of this initiative will share a story of hope, narrating how their co-creative community research collaboration focused on the history of structural racism in the Twin Cities fosters high-impact educational experiences for students and mutually-beneficial connections between their campuses and diverse community collaborators. This session-which features representatives from Mapping Prejudice at the University of Minnesota and Welcoming the Dear Neighbor? at St. Catherine University-illuminates how universities can support research and learning that sparks the dialogue, civic cohesion and creative grassroots engagement that power democracy.
