Description

Higher education is an important context for students to shape their civic identities and decide their roles in and contributions to civil society. Central to the success of these developmental tasks—and problematized by trends of polarization in society—are the skills and values needed to listen generously, to engage in dialogue across difference, and to thrive in a pluralistic society. In this workshop, we take a developmental-science approach to present generous listening and dialogue as a means to foster and promote character and community development. Participants will gain knowledge and skills in listening to self, other, and environment and inculcating such values in faculty, staff, and students for thriving campus communities.
