For over a decade, the University of Utah provided financial support for all Community Engaged Learning (CEL) designated courses through a predictable formula tied to student credit hours. In response to significant budget constraints, the university transitioned to a competitive grant-based funding model. This session analyses both models, examines the implications of the shift to a grant system, and invites dialogue on sustainable strategies for funding community-engaged learning in changing financial contexts. Participants will exchange ideas for adapting departmental and institutional funding approaches, fostering collaboration, and maintaining equitable access to CEL opportunities. The discussion will highlight practical strategies and shared insights to strengthen community engagement amid shifting financial realities while sustaining hope and commitment to community engagement.
