Description

Community service students often struggle to translate their civic engagement experiences into professional language that employers recognize. This interactive workshop presents a systematic framework developed through DePaul University's Community Service Scholars program that helps students identify and articulate the professional capabilities embedded in their service work. Participants will learn practical tools, including experience-mining questions, professional vocabulary translation strategies, and career connection techniques. The session demonstrates how students transform from saying "I helped with community events" to confidently articulating "I managed stakeholder engagement and coordinated multi-functional teams for community impact initiatives." Attendees will receive a practical toolkit for immediate implementation with their own civically engaged students, supporting career readiness while honoring the value of community service experiences.
