Knowledge-to-Action Workshop
Description

This session explores how institutions can use assessment to deepen community engagement and demonstrate impact through compassionate, collaborative action. Presenters will introduce two instruments implemented at Illinois State University: the Optimal College Town Assessment (OCTA) and the Community Impact Assessment (CIA). The OCTA examines campus-community relationships using modular surveys grounded in the Town-Gown Typology, while the CIA uses mixed methods to evaluate the quality and reciprocity of university partnerships with local organizations. Together, these tools help institutions center community voices, reflect on community engagement practices, and build unified strategies for ethical partnership. Participants will review both instruments, discuss communication strategies for data collection, and draft individualized assessment cycles to support university-community partnerships grounded in mutual benefit, reciprocity, and asset-based approaches.
