The Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement (CLDE) Coalition is working to ensure that all college students gain meaningful preparation for their roles in guiding tomorrow’s democracy. Because civic and democratic capacities include habits that are fostered over time, the CLDE Coalition recommends a pathways approach. This session will walk participants through Seven Key Steps for designing sequenced CLDE Pathways across general education, majors, and students’ experiential learning to explore public good questions and policy choices and apply evidence-informed reasoning to significant questions and choices. This session draws on College Civic and Democracy Learning for All: A CLDE Guide for Generative Curriculum Planning. Published in partnership with Campus Compact, the guide complements Campus Compact’s revitalized initiative on Campus Action Planning for Civic & Community Engagement (CAP).
