The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) at Kalamazoo College is a small department making a big impact. With four full-time staff, the CCE supports 18 paid student leaders, Civic Engagement Scholars (CESs), who lead 10 community programs in collaboration with campus and community partners. CESs recruit and train over 100 peers each year to serve as paid or volunteer participants. Structured reflection is central to the CCE's model as staff lead three cohort reflections per term, and CESs facilitate 2-3 additional sessions for their programs. The CCE provides consistent training, mentoring, and support to student leaders throughout the year. This session will examine the CES program's structure and explore how other institutions could build sustainable, student-led civic engagement initiatives.
